The Nomadic Garden

Issue

Informal settlements in Mumbai have poor environmental quality as access to green and open spaces, the knowledge of urban farming and horticulture, remains extremely low among residents.

Project

The project, with the help of the Narotam Sekhsaria Foundation, sees the equipping of a mobile garden that can be driven into informal communities, delivering knowledge and capacity development programmes that will inspire youth to engage with urban farming.

Objective

The project aims to motivate slum youth to engage with their immediate environments to carve out space for micro-scale urban farming.

Impact

The project aims to reach out to over 1000 youth in Mumbai’s slums and hopes to make them active promoters of healthy environmental practices within their communities, over the coming year.
