About the Organisation

Established in 1958, IIT Bombay was the first to be set up with foreign assistance from UNESCO. It is recognisaed as ‘Institutes of National Importance’ and has emerged as one of the top technical universities in the world.

The institute is recognised worldwide as a leader in the field of engineering education and research. Reputed for the outstanding calibre of students graduating from its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, the institute attracts the best students from the country for its bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral programmes. Research and academic programmes at IIT Bombay are driven by an outstanding faculty, many of whom are reputed for their research contributions internationally.

IIT Bombay builds links with peer universities and institutes, both at the national and the international levels, to enhance research and enrich its educational programmes.

Project

The N. R. Kamath Chair for Institutional Excellence was initiated by the Narotam Sekhsaria Foundation, with the help of the IIT Bombay alumni in 2017. This grant allows visiting professors from prestigious universities like Harvard University and Cornell University to spend a semester at IIT Bombay and conduct lectures, interactive sessions, workshops and research meetings for the students and faculty of IIT Bombay.

Impact

The chair recognises academic leadership in teaching and research in the professors appointed. The Foundation funds covers the honorarium, lecture expenses and workshops that has benefitted the students on campus.

Issue

The Narotam Sekhsaria Foundation firmly believes that the quality of educational institutions is a crucial issue in India’s growth and development story. Considering this, the Foundation supports reputed educational institutes like IIT-Bombay which is an institution of national importance.
