Working with Village Schools to Prevent the Seasonal Migration of Children

Issue

More than 40 per cent of the population in the Beed district of Maharashtra is migratory, and consists of socially, economically and educationally marginalised Dalits and tribal, landless farm-labourers. These people earn their livelihoods as agricultural labourers in the fields owned by upper castes, and migrate during sugarcane cutting season, which lasts for about 4-6 months of the year. Due to this migratory lifestyle, for years, the children of these communities have been deprived of education.

Project

The Narotam Sekhsaria Foundation supports the Janvikas Samajik Sanstha in its work with village schools to prevent the seasonal migration of the children with their parents for labour jobs.
