Early Detection of Oral, Breast, Cervical Cancer and Tobacco cessation programme
The global burden of cancer in India is amongst the highest in the world, and further set to grow five-fold by 2025. Presently, it is estimated that that there are 2.5 million cancer patients in India. Cancer prevention requires early detection, diagnosis, treatment, and palliation. The Family Planning Association of India (FPAI)’s project focuses on the early detection of oral, breast, and cervical cancer. This project is a community-based intervention in Mumbai, Pune, Thane, and Solapur. The project comprises of the following:
- To promote health seeking behaviour for prevention and early detection of oral, breast and cervical cancer.
- To create a cadre of service providers trained in specialized counselling for risk reduction and screening for oral, cervical and breast cancer.
- To conduct opportunistic screening for oral, breast and cervical cancers
- To provide tobacco cessation counselling to tobacco users identified during screening.
Family Planning Association of India (FPA India) is a social impact organization delivering essential health services focusing on sexual and reproductive health in 18 states of India. The organization was established in 1949. Through 191 clinics pan-India, FPA India reaches a large population with greater impact.
This initiative will build a cadre of the service providers in prevention, early detection and management of oral, breast and cervical cancer.
