Narotam Sekhsaria Foundation Pediatric Palliative Care Fellowship Programme

Issue

Pediatric palliative care is inherently challenging. Palliative care for children with life-limiting illnesses includes provision of expert pain and symptom assessment and management, appraisal of spiritual and emotional needs, mindful communication between the professional care givers. There are very few professionals in India with the expertise on the same.

Project

The fellowship programme was introduced in 2021 at Tata Memorial Hospital (TMH) under the guidance of Dr. Jayita Deodhar with the specific objective of teaching evidence-based assessments and treatment algorithms for optimum care of the children with cancer and other limiting conditions including emergency care.

About the organization

The Tata Memorial Hospital is situated in Parel, Mumbai. It is a specialist cancer treatment and research centre, closely associated with the Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC).

Impact

The fellowship program will enable doctors to get trained for Pediatric Palliative Care under the guidance of the experts in this field. Also, the hospitals have been able to provide quality care to their patients through this pool of trained human resources.
