Active Citizenship and Governance
Residents of informal settlements retain low accessibility to instruments of governance. Within this situation, women and youth find themselves more disadvantaged due to embedded social attitudes.
With the support of the Narotam Sekhsaria Foundation, the project is sited in Delhi and provides training to young girls from slum communities, enabling them to become community resources along with much-needed information on governance instruments, and know-how of efficiently running self-help groups.
The project aims to support responsible citizenship, while improving the social standing of young women within disadvantaged communities.
The project has trained 20 young girls and made them respectable agents of change within their community, and helped over 200 community members gain access to governance tools such as identification cards and welfare benefits. In the process, the project has initiated attitude change towards gender roles, and boosted responsible citizenship.
