Empowerment of Waste Wise Managers for Bettter Urban Solid Waste Management

Issue

Civic apathy and lack of resources have made solid waste management a pressing concern for Dimapur, Nagaland. Additionally, limited opportunities impact access to decent livelihoods for young people.

 

Project

With the help of the Narotam Sekhsaria Foundation, the project centres on the provision of training to young people in solid waste management, and facilitates their employment as Waste Wise Managers in different neighbourhood.

Objective

The project aims to provide disadvantaged youth with alternative livelihood options while addressing pressing civic concerns.

Impact

The organisation has trained and empowered dozens of youth and successfully implemented paid waste management services in a number of neighbourhoods in Dimapur. Youth involved in the project have gone on to set up their own offices and waste management collectives.

About the Organisation

ProRural is an organisation based in Dimapur, Nagaland, with a mission to promote holistic development through capacity building, livelihoods development, youth engagement, peace and conflict resolution, and environmental conservation. It aims to engage youth in productive and constructive activities by aligning with movement and organisations working on youth employment issues.
