Community Level Intervention to Reduce Nutritional Anaemia among Adolescent Girls to Improve Health Status

Issue

Nutritional anaemia affects a large number of adolescent girls living in the informal settlements of Thiruppur, Tamil Nadu. Lack of knowledge and access to diagnostic care further compounds their health status.

PROJECT

The project, supported by the Narotam Sekhsaria Foundation, is a community-based intervention which will involve awareness and outreach programmes for identifying health care workers, key stakeholders and girls at risk, while developing a knowledge base; and diagnostic and treatment systems for timely and effective treatment of anaemic girls.

OBJECTIVE

The project aims to sensitise the community as a whole towards girls health issues, and make them equal and active stakeholders in strategies for better health and hygiene standards.

Impact

The project hopes to reach out to over 300 girls and their communities in Thiruppur.
