Empowering Persons with Special Needs through Skill Development

Issue

The S.P.J. Sadhana School is an internationally-known resource centre that trains persons with special needs, and updates teachers by training them in new, effective methodologies. It is the only centre in the world that offers five-year polytechnic courses to mentally-challenged young adults, guaranteeing 100 per cent chances of employment for them.

Project

The Narotam Sekhsaria Foundation supports the S.P.J. Sadhana School in running one of its vocational training centres, which provides skill-based training to differently-abled youth. These courses train them in disciplines such as art and crafts, tailoring and clay modelling. Other courses impart skills in fields such as catering and hospitality, as well as in office skills and general vocational skills. The highly trained team of teachers and qualified therapists at the vocational centre also equip these young individuals to meet employment criteria by teaching them communication and self-help skills, as well as behaviour that is considered acceptable in a workplace.

About the Organisation

Ever since its inception over 35 years ago, the S.P.J. Sadhana School has worked tirelessly towards helping mentally-challenged individuals to learn to adjust to the world around them and to become independent and self-sufficient members of society.

Impact

Today the vocational training centre of S.P.J. Sadhana school provides State of the Art training facilities for children with special needs.
